Bernard Hodgkin - CHAIR

Local Authority Governor

Bernard is currently Secondary School Improvement Adviser in Herefordshire. Previously he was Principal Lecturer and Course Leader of Secondary Initial Teacher Training at the University of Gloucestershire. He lives locally and both his children went to their local primary school and Archway.


 

Chris Minett - VICE CHAIR - Finance & Standards Committees
Over 20 years as a governor including 10 as Chair

A long career managing training programmes and supporting people into employment. In education, I work supporting further education for people and adults over 16.


Julie Howe - Community Committee
Governor - 1 year

Parent of kids in school, have run my own local business, was an Art Director in London for over 10 years, part of an artists cooperative in Stroud

Joanna Mudge - Community Committee
New Parent Governor

Parent governor with 2 children in the school, reception and year 2. Qualified nurse for 20 years currently a ward sister at CGH which involves sitting on various committees and meetings regarding all issues from staffing to policies and procedures. Currently building on my experience as a school governor.

Jackie Terry
New Parent Governor

Jackie has a child in Year 2 and she hopes that by becoming a Governor she can help Stroud Valley ensure our children succeed.


Cherry Ann Knott - Finance, General Purposes and Premises, Community Committees
Governor - 16 years

Trained as an architect; initially worked mainly in town planning (conservation areas and historic buildings – local authorities and central government). Moved into arts/conservation administration (five years as head of regional services at the Crafts Council; five years a property manager/curator with the National Trust). Has undertaken several large-scale research projects (adult education in the crafts and a socio-economic study of craftspeople in Britain, both for the Crafts Council; on continuing professional development for the Gulbenkian Foundation and at the Institute of Education). Was one of the team responsible for the design and setting up of Stroud’s Museum in the Park. Has been a part-time inspector in further education and an assessor for Arts Council Lottery grant applications. Since April 2010, a member of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Committee for the South West.


Julie Dowling-Burrage - Pupil Welfare and Standards Committees
Governor - 18 months

Teaching Assistant at Stroud Valley for ten years.
Three now teenage children have all been educated at school. Previous committee member on PTA at Stroud Valley and Marling School.

Sarah Heague - Pupil Welfare and Standards Committees
Deputy Headteacher - 2 years

I have been at Stroud Valley since January 2009 and after 13 years of teaching, I’m still learning every day!

Suzanne Boston
Staff Governor

Suzanne has taught at Stroud Valley for the last five years, two of which as Head of Key Stage 2. She reports 'It is a lovely school in which to work, with lovely children, supportive staff and parents.'

Simon Pizzey

Community Governor

Simon is a photographer for Gloucestershire Media and is looking forward to helping create links between the school and the wider community. Anyone who has any community ideas or concerns are welcome to contact him through the school. He was delighted to be asked to become a community governor at Stroud Valley School, as he has worked with the school many times in his professional capacity.
