In Diamond Class our ethos is that we all work together as a team. We think about each other's feelings and emotions and we are 100% supportive of everyone. As a class, we encourage independence and we learn from our mistakes. The people in our class are all different but we are all treated equally. We respect other people and our friends help us in all that we do at school. We try to make learning fun and when we go off track we are confident in our ability to learn. We all have a vein of creativity which is nurtured and developed with the help of each and every person. (All ethos ideas were contributed by all class members).
We are rewarded for good manners, sensible behaviour and hard work with raffle tickets and a prize draw each week. We also vote for our "Stars of the Week" who then get a special reward. Our big focus this year is presentation of our work (handwriting and spelling) as this gives us a sense of accomplishment.
One of our favourite things to do in school and at home is reading! We count up the number of times that we have read to elder brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents.......you get the picture! We can win these swish certificates for our efforts as well.

As you can see, we have set ourselves some really challenging targets.
We love reading in Diamond Class and the more that we can do the better we become!
By the end of the year Mr Allen is confident that everyone will have some of these. |

"In Diamond Class we have the reading awards. We have pictures of ourselves and we also have reading books. When we read to someone they write a comment and give a signature. When we have 20 signatures we get the first certificate."

(Year 4 Diamond Class) |
Over the course of the year we are studying three different topics: The Victorians, Water Water Everywhere and A Comparison with A Different Location. We try to link all of our subjects to these topics and really enjoy learning in this creative way as it allows us to express ourselves more.
We are encouraged to develop our own ideas and use our research skills across different curriculum areas. Learning how to learn is a vital skill that we need for our future lives. We are not afraid to make mistakes as we realise that we learn from them!
We enjoy sharing our topics and learning with our families. We have homework each week connected to the area of the curriculum we are focussing on.
