Computing Intent

Computing is a subject that is invaluable for life and at Stroud Valley we want to help shape learners who have a positive attitude towards computing and an interest in technology and digital innovation. We work in a range of different ways, both individually and collaboratively, developing creativity, problem-solving and computational thinking skills. We make links with the real world wherever possible to enable our children to understand why they are learning these skills and how they will support them in their future lives, showing children that computing is exciting, relevant and that everyone CAN succeed in computing.

We want children to develop confidence in using technology safely, responsibly and effectively, whilst building their understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy. Through practical, engaging and hands-on experiences, children learn to create, explore, programme, debug and communicate using a range of digital tools. We encourage children to persevere, learn from mistakes and develop resilience as they solve problems and create digital solutions.

We aim to nurture independent, responsible and curious learners who are prepared for an increasingly digital world. By making meaningful links across the curriculum and helping children understand the importance of online safety and the impact of technology on everyday life, we inspire them to become confident, responsible and capable digital citizens.

Purple Mash

At Stroud Valley we use Purple Mash, award-winning teaching and learning software aimed at KS1 and KS2 children. It helps to develop digital and computing skills, including coding, email, and online safety. The activities and games featured are high quality and are closely linked to many other curriculum areas.
