History
History Intent
At Stroud Valley, we believe that history helps children to understand the world they live in by learning about the people, events and achievements that have shaped the past. We aim to inspire curiosity about history and encourage children to develop a sense of identity, respect for different cultures and an appreciation of how the past influences the present and the future.
Through engaging and enquiry-based learning, children develop a secure knowledge of local, British and world history. They are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, investigate a range of historical sources, think critically and communicate their ideas with confidence. Working both independently and collaboratively, children learn to compare different periods of time, recognise change and continuity, understand cause and consequence and consider different interpretations of the past.
We make meaningful links between history and the wider world, helping children to understand the significance of historical events and the impact they continue to have on society today. By exploring the lives of significant individuals and diverse civilisations, children develop empathy, respect and an appreciation of the achievements and experiences of people throughout history.
Our aim is to nurture confident, inquisitive and reflective historians who enjoy discovering the past, think critically about historical evidence and leave Stroud Valley with the knowledge, skills and curiosity to understand the world around them and their place within it.
