Modern Foreign Languages (French) Intent
At Stroud Valley, we believe that learning a modern foreign language opens the door to new cultures, experiences and opportunities. We aim to inspire children to develop a positive attitude towards learning French, encouraging curiosity, confidence and enjoyment as they communicate in another language. We create opportunities for children to work independently and collaboratively, building their confidence to listen, speak, read and write in French in a supportive environment where everyone feels able to succeed.
Through engaging and practical lessons, children develop their vocabulary, pronunciation and understanding of the French language whilst exploring the traditions, customs and culture of French-speaking countries. We encourage children to take risks, practise regularly and learn from their mistakes, helping them to become confident communicators and enthusiastic language learners.
We make meaningful links between language learning and the wider world, enabling children to understand the value of communicating with others and appreciating different cultures. By developing their language skills alongside curiosity, respect and cultural awareness, we prepare children for future language learning and help them become confident, open-minded and responsible global citizens.
