Geography Intent
At Stroud Valley, we believe that geography helps children to understand the world they live in and their place within it. We aim to inspire curiosity and fascination about the Earth's people, places and environments, equipping children with the knowledge and skills to make sense of an ever-changing world.
Through engaging, enquiry-based learning, children explore a wide range of physical and human geography, from their local area to the wider world. They develop their understanding of how places are connected, how environments are shaped and how people interact with the world around them. Through fieldwork, map work, digital technologies and the use of a range of geographical sources, children learn to observe, question, investigate and communicate their findings with increasing confidence.
We encourage children to think critically about important global issues, including sustainability, climate change and the responsible use of natural resources. By making meaningful links between geography and everyday life, we help children to appreciate cultural diversity, respect different communities and understand the importance of caring for our planet.
Our aim is to develop confident, knowledgeable and responsible geographers who are curious about the world, value its diversity and are prepared to contribute positively as informed global citizens throughout their lives.
