Design and Technology Intent
Design and Technology is a subject that is invaluable for life and at Stroud Valley we want to help shape learners who have a positive attitude towards designing, making and problem solving. We work in a range of different ways, both individually and collaboratively, encouraging children to think creatively, take risks and develop practical skills. We make links with the real world wherever possible to enable our children to understand why they are learning these skills and how they will help them in their future lives, showing children that Design and Technology is exciting, purposeful and that everyone CAN succeed.
We want children to develop their knowledge, understanding and technical skills through designing, making and evaluating products for real and meaningful purposes. We encourage children to be innovative, resilient and reflective, learning from mistakes as they improve and refine their ideas. Through working with a range of materials, tools and techniques, children develop confidence in creating high-quality products whilst considering the needs of others and the wider world.
We aim to nurture imaginative, resourceful and capable learners who can solve real-life problems through creativity and practical application. By making meaningful links with science, mathematics, engineering, computing and everyday life, children develop an understanding of the role Design and Technology plays in shaping our world. We also encourage children to develop an understanding of healthy eating, nutrition and cooking, equipping them with essential life skills and preparing them to become confident designers, makers and innovators of the future.
