Science

Science is a subject that inspires curiosity and helps children make sense of the world around them. At Stroud Valley, we want to develop learners who are excited by science, ask thoughtful questions and have a genuine respect for the natural and physical world. Through a range of practical, hands-on and enquiry-based experiences, we encourage children to explore, investigate and discover, helping them to understand that science is relevant, exciting and an important part of everyday life.

We want children to develop secure scientific knowledge alongside the skills needed to work scientifically. We encourage them to observe carefully, make predictions, plan and carry out investigations, identify patterns, classify, research and draw conclusions using appropriate scientific vocabulary. We know that making mistakes is a valuable part of learning, and we encourage children to think independently, reflect on their findings and learn from their investigations.

We aim to nurture confident, inquisitive learners who enjoy asking questions and solving problems through scientific enquiry. By making meaningful links to previous learning, introducing inspiring scientists and exploring the role of science in today's world, including important global issues such as climate change and future science-related careers, we help children to develop a lifelong interest in science and an understanding of the vital role it plays in shaping our lives and our future.
