Canal Trip
Lesson: History
Class: Year 3 Diamond Year: 2026 - 2027
Diamond and Ruby class had a brilliant day in the sunshine learning all about the Stroudwater Canal. We walked along the towpath and learnt how canals were built, how some boats were pulled by donkeys as they were less likely to get stolen than horses and how locks worked. We saw the canal being dredged by a digger which the children found fascinating. Then we went to the visitor centre where we learnt about the restoration of the canal and took rubbings of 'tokens' (coins made to pay the navvies and the people that worked on the canal). We had a wonderful ride on a boat along the canal which was really peaceful. A big thank you to the volunteers who made day so special.
