In Maths we have been looking at the 2D shape a rectangle. We made different rectangles and went on a retangle hunt!

In Science we have been learing about the human body. We drew around a friend in our group and labelled the main body parts we need to know for Year 1 and 2.

Our topic in Autum Term 1 was "Memory Box". As part of this we brought in bags full of memories all about us! We shared them with our friends and spoke with such confidence! We learnt so much more about each other.

We've been busy celebrating Diwali in Amethyst. We made rangoli patterns using coloured rice, used our 2D shape knowledge to make rangoli patterns and made our own Diya lamps to take home. We had such fun and learnt lots about "The festival of Light".

On Thursday we went to Stroud library to find out about the summer reading challenge. We met Archie who talked to us. Then we enjoyed reading books together. Thank you for letting us visit.

How exciting this week has been. On wednesday we dissected some Barn Owl pellets. We could not believe how many bones we found! evidence of mice, shrews, voles and birds.

On Thursday we were lucky enough to meet Tamsin from Stroud Valley's project to go pond dipping at Capel's Mill. We had to use indentity sheets to name 4 things we found. Pond snail, newts - palmate and smooth, pond skaters and leach. But to our surprise for the first time in 10 years no dragonfly larvea

We have been growing plants and cress to look at the roots and shoots. We grew cress in one week and today made egg and cress sandwiches.

We had a brilliant morning at The heavens this week. We spotted early spring flowers, liostened to and spotted birds. Ate delicious cooking thanks Mrs EBS! spotted things in the stream and paddled in the stream. Thanks for all the help.

Who doesn't like a good book. Today we read Mr Wolf's pancakes by Jan Fearnely. Extremely funny with a little surprise at the end. We had a lovely day enjoying activities based round this book and of course making pancakes! We also talked about Shrove Tuesday.

Today Amethyst class went to the Museum in the Park. They had 5 workshops with the education team. We found out about food dinosaurs ate and even found some examples, we looked at how fossils were formed and got to handle them. We also got to look at the xhibits in the Museum. What a great day .

We were lucky to work with The Stroud valley Project . We learnt about hedgehogs and hibernation. We found out how important it is for hedgehogs to be safe and wam.

In both our recent stories the Main characters had to use a parachute so we tried to make one which could carry a little duck safely. There were some successes and some diasters.

Professor Slime left a trail of destruction that Amethyst class had to stop. They had to find all the messages telling the other school children to break things and threw litter to mention a few.

We celebrated diwali with many people around thge world. We made Diva lamps to welcome people over our Rangoli patterned mat. We made traditional food and retold the story of Rama and Sita.

After our visit to Goodrich castle we saw the arrow slits but didn't know about bows and arrows so we came back to school and have been enjoying archery and using the targets to try and score. Ask how we did.

What a great way to start the non-fiction section of our topic Turrets and tiaras. Goodrich castle filled us with excitment as we were taken round by Mistress Nell. we found the murder holes and portcullis amazing. Did you know they sold the toilet contents to farmers!

We had a lovely afternoon in Rodborough fields picking blackberries, rolling down hills and playing Pooh sticks. Hopefully the crumble will be yummy tomoroow.
