What a Show!

Date: 18th Jul 2024 @ 2:14pm

I am so proud of each and every Year 6: they worked so hard in such a short space of time to create a magnificent show.  We had a long and very busy day performing three times, each time they just got better and better.  Fantastic singing, dancing, great comical performances and brillaint props.  Well done chaps, I hope you have some wonderful memories.

Thanks to Chris for filming the production, here is llink if you would like to watch it again.

Last Day of Resi

Date: 23rd May 2024 @ 11:47am

After all that dancing the children slept really well last night.  This morning they packed up & had another big breakfast (who knew watermelon and bacon was a good combination!), be warned your child is now used to cereal, croissants, full english and fresh fruit, all in one sitting!

We have had lots of compliments from other guests about how well behaved the children are and what good manners they have. Proud.

This morning we went swimming again and on the water slides - brilliant fun.  Then we will have a picnic lunch & get on the coach.  See you back in Stroud - we will be the tired and bedraggled looking ones!   Enjoy unpacking their bags!

Day 3 of Resi

Date: 22nd May 2024 @ 11:11pm

Sorry for uploading photgraphs so late, we have been very busy!

Today was very wet in places, so we only had a few minutes on the pedal carts before we had to go inside.  So we played cricket, rounders, basketball, made candles, went on the climbing wall and then swam.  The children are shattered, but still very lively!

Then we ate even more lovely food, went in the games zone and some of us played pool.  Most of us (including some staff) went in the Fun Zone and climbed around soft play and went down slides (Mrs NG took the pics).  Then we went to the lounge and listened to a live singer and almost all the children danced.  A great day.  We are all in bed now. Enjoy the photos.

Day 2 of Resi

Date: 21st May 2024 @ 3:50pm

The children had a good night and started the day with a full English breakfast.  Then it was a day of adevnture golf, dodgeball, ice curling, roller skating, pickleball and 5 a side.  Enjoy the photographs.

Owl Pellet Dissection

Date: 3rd May 2024 @ 3:04pm

Owls are a theme in our class book 'Skellig' by David Almond, so in science we dissected owl pellets.

We spent a fascinating morning taking the pellets apart and identifying the bones from various mammals that the owls eat whole.  We found the skulls of mice, voles and shrews, as well as the tiniest rib bones. The children identified hip bones, vertebrae and many other bones.

DT - sewing a drawstring bag

Date: 18th Mar 2024 @ 3:40pm

Last week the children designed and made their own drawstring bag. We had some gorgeous fabrics and they really enjoyed sewing them (well all but one child, they know who they are!).  Look how proud they are.

World Book Day 2024

Date: 8th Mar 2024 @ 10:12am

Emerald Class looked incredible yesterday: every child dressed up as a character from their favourite book. We had the warden and Stanley Yelnats  from 'Holes', a tiger that came for tea and many many more. We had 'speedy reading' where the children had one minute to tell everyone else why they should read their choice of book.

Science Week Year 6

Date: 23rd Jan 2024 @ 1:45pm

The first week back this term was all about science and electricity.  The children drew and then made electrical circuits, they made traffic lights and even batteries out of lemons and potatoes!

Mexican Master Chef Cookery

Date: 6th Dec 2023 @ 12:02pm

The childrern created some beautiful, rainbow-coloured salads and sizzling chicken and or vegetable fajitas.  Before our cookery day we had learned all about food hygiene and preparation. The food was delicious and the children tucked into a variety of vegetables and spices.

The comments form the children were so positive about the food that they had prepared and eaten.

Emerald Class Visit Gloucester Prison

Date: 6th Nov 2023 @ 3:05pm

We had a fascinating visit to Gloucester Prison, it was very interesting and quite eerie as well.  We got to learn all about the history of the prison and how punishments had changed over the years.  We even got to go in a cell.  The sound of the prison cell door closing was quite scary!

North America Dioramas

Date: 6th Nov 2023 @ 3:01pm

Here are our North America dioramas.

Emerald Class visit Slade Farm

Date: 20th Oct 2023 @ 12:15pm

The sun shone and we spent a lovely afternoon doing some tree conservation work, fed the chickens and did a scavenger hunt and art in the forest.  We ate our lunch and watched a buzzard circling in the sky.  The trees that were planted a few years ago (including one by Phoebe in our class!) were now safe from deer, so the cages were removed and we got rid of the grass and mulched the area around the base.  The chickens were quite brave and let us feed them.  Thank you for a lovely afternoon Sarah.

Eel DNA extraction at Capel's Mill

Date: 20th Oct 2023 @ 11:58am

Emerald Class spent a morning down at Capel's Mill with Tamsin from Stroud Valleys Prokect, our mission was to extract water from the river to see if eel DNA was present.

We used our map reading skills and then set up stations at various locations along the river.  We collected water samples and then had to filter the water, add a buffer solution and then send off the samples.  The laboratory will then test the water samples to see if there is evidence of eel DNA.

We learnt all about the life cycle of the eel and the incredible 4,000 mile journey they take from the Sargasso Sea and end up in Stroud 2 or 3 years later.

Big thank you to Tamsin for such a fascinating moring, we are all very interested in these incredible creatures.
