Happy Lunar New Year!

We had a fantastic day energising with Qi Gong; tasting the flavours of China; making paper snakes to celebrate the year of the snake; and sculpting willow lanterns with our families. Our day ended with a parade around school complete with bells to ward of any bad spirits in the year ahead. 

Dinosaurs at the museum!

Today Amethyst class went to the Museum in the Park. They had 5 workshops with the education team. We found out about food dinosaurs ate and even found some examples, we looked at how fossils were formed and got to handle them. We also got to look at the xhibits in the Museum. What a great day .

Hockey

This term we are learning hockey with Vinnie.  Now we are in the juniors we are using wooden sticks.  The weather was cold, but it was a beautiful, sunny day and we had a great time.

Reverse Advent Calendar

Christmas tree festival

We went down to see the Christmas trees. We were lucky enough to hear the Reverend tell us the Christmas story too which we all enjoyed! We found our Christmas tree that we made decorations for!

Old bear is stuck

Hedgehogs

We were lucky to work with The Stroud valley Project . We learnt about hedgehogs and hibernation. We found out how important it is for hedgehogs to be safe and wam.

Parachutes

In both our recent stories the Main characters had to use a parachute so we tried to make one which could carry a little duck safely. There were some successes and some diasters.

The children are really enjoying studying about the artist Frida Kahlo. They have made some beautiful small studies in their art books and will be starting their portrait drawings on Monday.

Superheroes save the day

Professor Slime left a trail of destruction that Amethyst class had to stop. They had to find all the messages telling the other school children to break things and threw litter to mention a few.

Making a canal

After learning how and why canals were built we made our own.  The children formed embankments and cut out a staright canal.  They lined the canal and filled it with water.  Then they added boats, an engineer, mill owners, buildings, horses and lots more. 

Happy Diwali

We celebrated diwali with many people around thge world. We made Diva lamps to welcome people over our Rangoli patterned mat. We made traditional food and retold the story of Rama and Sita.

teddy bear picnic

Hooke Court 2024

What an amazing time we all had creating wonderful memories at Hooke Court this year. The children were fantastic!

We took part in a range of exciting activities including; bridging a very wet moat; night search and rescue; tribal kingdom day; shell craft and rocket building!

The children all enjoyed some delicious food for breakfast, lunch and tea!

We are extremely proud of all the children for embracing their time away and hope you can agree from the photos that they have had a truly memorable experience and one that they will hopefully remember and cherish for a long time 😊

Boat floating

What an amazing day we had today! We went off on an adventure and floated our boats! You should all be really proud of your children. There were so many successful boats! Thank you for all of your support with helping the children make their boats. Every single person in the class made one which was amazing!

Long bow or Cross bow

After our visit to Goodrich castle we saw the arrow slits but didn't know about bows and arrows so we came back to school and have been enjoying archery and using the targets to try and score. Ask how we did.

Pirate Day

We have had so much fun learning about Pirates. We have had an amazing day dressing up, we made hardtack biscuits, apple and cheese boats and played lots of games (and learnt lots obviously!)

Trojan Story Dance

Today we gave the final performance of our class dance based on the Trojan war story. 

We began by sailing the 1,000 ships across the sea from Sparta to Troy before building the walls of Troy to protect Helen within the city. Enemy dancers performed partner sequences in slow motion and real time and then we became the mighty war horse that ultimately helped the Spartan army to win the war. 

We've had a fantastic term dancing and the children should be really proud of the confidence and quality of movement that they have shown.

Castles

What a great way to start the non-fiction section of our topic Turrets and tiaras. Goodrich castle filled us with excitment as we were taken round by Mistress Nell. we found the murder holes and portcullis amazing. Did you know they  sold the toilet contents to farmers!
